DONATE TIME

Volunteers are vital to the success of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, and several opportunities exist for people who want to help Second Harvest continue "fighting hunger and feeding hope."

Food Sorting Volunteers

Help sorting food is always needed in Second Harvest's Food2Families room. Volunteers sort and box food that is donated to the Food Bank through food drives. This is a great activity for energetic individuals and groups! Please note that food sorting takes place in Second Harvest's warehouse - a busy, working distribution center. Therefore, Second Harvest is required to set limitations related to volunteers. Food sorting volunteers must be age 12 or older. Groups of people younger than 18 must be accompanied by adult chaperones. The maximum number of people that can sort food at any one time is 50. Volunteer hours consist of one to two hour shifts within Second Harvest Food Bank’s hours of operation (sorting projects of 1 to 2 hour shifts typically begin at 9AM and finish at 4PM, Monday - Friday). For more information about scheduling a food sorting volunteer activity, please contact Second Harvest at 615. 329. 3491 or email us.

Internships
Second Harvest has several opportunities for undergraduate and graduate internships. You will get an inside view of a dynamic, award winning organization while meeting your school's internship requirements. We work with students studying in a variety of fields, such as Public Relations, Marketing, Social Work, Nutrition, Human and Organizational Management, and Business Management. To learn more about interning with Second Harvest, please contact us at 615. 329. 3491 or email us.

Special Events Volunteers
Volunteers play a critical role in implementing Second Harvest's special events. Events include the Kids Cafe Holiday Party, Harvest Moon Ball, food drives, and various fund raising events. For more information about volunteering for special events, please contact Second Harvest at 615. 329. 3491 or email us.

Culinary Arts Center Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to assist in Second Harvest's Culinary Arts Center. The Center educates the public on issues related to nutrition and food preparation. The center is used for food handling safety classes, product testing, culinary arts demonstrations, catering, and nutrition training for Second Harvest's partner agencies, supporters, and clients. Volunteers help with food preparation, serving, and clean-up. This is a fun volunteer opportunity, especially for those interested in cooking. Volunteer times vary, including weekdays, evenings, and some weekends. To volunteer, contact Mark Rubin, Culinary Arts Director, at 615. 329. 3491 or email Mark.
